Air cooling is gradually being replaced by liquid cooling technology, especially immersion liquid cooling, which is regarded as the next generation of green and efficient data center cooling technology.

Fluorinated liquids can be divided into hydrofluoric saturated compounds (such as hydrofluoroethers), perfluorinated saturated compounds (such as perfluoropolyethers), etc. On the supply side, the global share of high-performance electronic fluorinated liquids is mainly occupied by foreign companies such as 3M, Solvay, Asahi Glass and Chemours. In 2022, 3M announced that it would withdraw from the production of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and strive to stop using PFAS in its product portfolio by the end of 2025.


At this time, about 80% of the global coolant market is in the supplier switching window, and 2025 will become the key to competition among fluorinated liquid companies. According to publicly disclosed data, the total market size of global data center immersion coolants is expected to reach 100,000 tons in 2025, and the average price of 200 yuan/kg corresponds to a global data center market size of about 20 billion yuan.


In addition to data center coolants, fluorinated liquids can also be used for dry etching temperature control, wet cleaning, wafer dehydration and drying, packaging test cooling, aircraft engine spray cooling, satellite electronic component protection, medical equipment cleaning and lithium battery fire extinguishing in the semiconductor field, etc.

In short, fluorinated liquids occupy an irreplaceable position in high-end fields such as semiconductors and data centers due to their unique physical and chemical properties. At present, the cost of electronic fluorinated liquids is relatively high.
