Dry Film Lubricant: Easily Solve Automotive Seal Assembly Challenges

In automotive parts assembly, the quality of seal installation directly affects the overall sealing performance and lifespan of the vehicle. Choosing the right lubricant is a crucial step in resolving assembly issues. Recently, an automotive seal manufacturer was stuck on the lubrication process for axle oil seal assembly. Fortunately, through technical collaboration with Jialede, a solution was successfully found.

This company was looking for a dry film lubricant that could be sprayed onto the outer ring of the axle oil seal. This would not only facilitate smoother assembly but also protect the outer rubber of the seal from damage. Even with slight interference, the seal would remain firmly within the housing. Specific requirements included: it needed to withstand baking at 180 degrees Celsius for 5 hours, maintain lubrication for at least 3 months, and withstand assembly forces between 2000-6000 Newtons. Previously, they used imported water-based wax, which not only took three months to arrive but also provided unsatisfactory lubrication.

After receiving an inquiry, the technicians at Jialede immediately went to the customer's site to understand the situation and, based on their operating requirements, recommended a newly developed baking-type dry film lubricant. The core components of this product are polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) solid lubricating particles and perfluoropolyether oil. After spraying, the solvent evaporates, forming a uniform semi-dry oil film. It has an exceptionally low coefficient of friction, is not prone to dust accumulation, and effectively prevents direct contact between friction surfaces, reducing wear during assembly.

Interestingly, this lubricant has a wide operating temperature range, functioning normally from -40℃ to 160℃, and easily handling 180℃ baking conditions. Furthermore, it has no flash point or auto-ignition point, is chemically very stable, and is compatible with most engineering plastics and elastomers. The customer tested samples for three months with excellent results, fully meeting the required lubrication life of 3 to 6 months, and assembly was smooth. They have now begun partial use of this product.

In the field of precision assembly of automotive parts, this type of dry film lubricant, adaptable to special operating conditions, is gradually becoming a helpful tool for solving assembly challenges. It is not only easy to apply and highly adaptable, but also environmentally friendly.
